Allergy Relief
Colostrum can help desensitize the body to allergens by helping to suppress IgE expression.

Alzheimer's Disease and Cognitive Disorders
Colostrum contains components which have been shown to benefit those suffering from these debilitating conditions.

Anti-Inflammatory & Pain Management
Inflammatory conditions are a major source of pain, including arthritis, colitis and other similar conditions. Colostrum has anti-inflammatory activity which can reduce inflammation, thus helping reduce the pain due to these conditions.

Antioxidants and Anti-aging
It is known that oxidative stress and high levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), by-products of normal metabolism which build up in the body, can cause widespread damage and increase the aging process. Colostrum contains antioxidants and the precursors to glutathione (the most powerful antioxidant known) which help clean up these pollutants from the body and reverse the damage they do to the body.

There are numerous forms of arthritis, from osteoarthritis to autoimmune rheumatoid arthritis which arise from many different causes. The common denominator between all the different forms of arthritis, however, is an inflammation of the joints which causes extreme pain and deformation of the joint structure. Colostrum is a powerful anti-inflammatory compound which can significantly benefit arthritis sufferers, and it can help heal inflammation of the gut which has been linked to some forms of arthritis.

Colostrum has been shown to help asthma sufferers as it tones down the allergic response which brings on the asthma attacks.

Athletic Performance & Body Building
Colostrum is well-known in the athletic community as a means to increase lean body mass without the dangerous side effects found in steroids. It also helps keep the athlete healthy by accelerating the healing of athletic injuries and boosting the immune system, which becomes depressed after extreme exercise. It is used by Olympic athletes to boost their performance because it builds lean muscles, increase stamina and shortens recovery time.

Autoimmune Diseases
Autoimmune diseases are the result of an overactive immune system which begins to produce antibodies to the body's own proteins. PRP (Proline Rich Polypeptides), a unique substance found only in Colostrum, has the ability to tone down the overactive immune system to normal levels. Autoimmune disorders such Crohn's disease respond to the anti-inflammatory components of Colostrum.

Lactoferrin, one of the principal proteins found in Colostrum, may help prevent or shrink cancers. Colostrum also contains milk fats which have been shown to be anti carcinogenic. Colostrum helps Cancer patients undergoing Radio or Chemo therapies by boosting their immunity system, which is severely compromised during these therapies.

Cardiac Health
An increasingly large body of evidence shows that Colostrum is an excellent Cardiac Health food, particularly for those with high blood pressure. Insulin and IGF-I (both found in Colostrum) relax coronary arteries, which decreases the blood pressure in them.

Colostrum detoxifies the body by inhibiting or destroying the harmful pathogens which can colonize the gut and cause major health problems, such as Helicobacter Pylori (the main cause of gastric and duodenal ulcers) and Candida Albicans (a fungus which can overgrow the intestines).
Colostrum acts to heal the damage to the intestinal lining caused by the pathogens and toxins which can accumulate there and prevents the pathogens and toxins from entering the body and restores normal gut functioning.Colostrum also helps protect and heal both the liver and the pancreas from the effects of toxins in the body by helping to remove dangerous toxins and by stimulating these organs to replace damaged tissue.

IGF-1, a growth factor which closely resembles insulin, has been shown to help prevent diabetes in those susceptible to developing it. IGF-1 is present in Colostrum in large quantities and delays the clinical onset of diabetes. Diabetic Autonomic Neuropathy (a condition found in diabetics in which nerve cells of the autonomic nervous system die) may be improved by IGF-1 which has a neuro protective effect that prevents damage to neurons from the high glucose levels in the blood that are associated with poorly controlled diabetes.

Obesity & Weight Management
Colostrum helps fight Obesity and promotes Weight Management due to the presence of many of its components including PRP and IGF-1.

Skin Health and Wound Healing
Colostrum is good for Skin Health. It contains all that is needed to maintain healthy skin and reduce wrinkles.

Health benefits of Vitamin D3

"Because vitamin D is so cheap and so clearly reduces all-cause mortality, I can say this with great certainty: Vitamin D represents the single most cost-effective medical intervention in the United States."
Dr. Greg Plotnikoff, Medical Director, Penny George Institute for Health and Healing, Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis

"This is like the Holy Grail of cancer medicine; vitamin D produced a drop in cancer rates greater than that for quitting smoking, or indeed any other countermeasure in existence."
Dennis Mangan, clinical laboratory scientist

Vitamin D and cancer
The connection between vitamin D deficiency and cancer was first made by Drs. Frank and Cedric Garland of the University of California, San Diego. After finding that the incidence of colon cancer was nearly three times higher in New York than in New Mexico, the Garland brothers hypothesized lack of sun exposure (resulting in a lack of vitamin D) played a role. They published their hypothesis, entitled Do sunlight and vitamin D reduce the likelihood of colon cancer? in 1980 in the International Journal of Epidemiology.
In 2006, the journal re-published the paper in its original form, followed by a set of commentaries on the importance of this seminal paper.

Top 10 facts about vitamin D and cancer
1. Many studies have found solar ultraviolet-B (UVB) vitamin D associated with reduced risk of breast, colon, and rectal cancer.
2. A randomized controlled trial with 1100 IU/day vitamin D3 plus 1450 mg/day calcium found a 77% reduction in all-cancer incidence.
3. Geographical studies have found reduced risk in mortality rates for 15-20 types of cancer in regions of higher solar UVB doses.
4. Observational studies found risk of breast, colon, and rectal cancer falls as vitamin D blood levels rise to over 40 ng/mL (100 nmol/L).
5. Mechanisms have been proposed to explain how vitamin D acts to reduce the risk of cancer from starting, growing, and spreading.
6. Those who develop nonmelanoma skin cancer may have produced enough vitamin D to reduce their risk of internal cancers.
7. Those with higher vitamin D blood levels at time of cancer diagnosis had nearly twice the survival rate of those with the lowest levels.
8. African-Americans have an increased risk of cancer in part due to lower vitamin D blood levels because of darker skin.
9. Higher UVB exposure early in life has been found associated with reduced risk of breast and prostate cancer.
10. Those diagnosed with breast, colon and prostate cancer in summer in Norway had higher survival rates than those diagnosed in winter.

Cardiovascular diseases
"I do think vitamin D is one of the most promising nutrients for prevention of cardiac disease and cancer, and I believe in it strongly."
Dr. JoAnn Manson, Professor, Department of Epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Chief of Division of Preventive Medicine, Department of Medicine, at Brigham and Women's Hospital

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) - also known as heart and circulatory disease, includes conditions such as coronary heart disease (angina and heart attack). Conditions treated are:

  • Atherosclerosis
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Coronary heart disease
  • Hypertension
  • Peripheral vascular disease

Congenital, hereditary and neonatal disorders
Congenital disorders are health problems that occur at birth or sometimes before birth.
Neonatal disorders are health problems that occur in newborn infants.
Hereditary disorders are health problems that are passed down from parents to their offspring.
Condition commonly treated is Craniotabes which is a softening of the skull bones in newborns. It generally lasts a few weeks or months.

Diabetes and endocrine diseases
Black patients with endocrine disease have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease than do White patients.
Diabetes is a long-term condition caused by too much glucose, a type of sugar, in the blood. It is also known as diabetes mellitus.
Endocrine disorders are health problems that occur in the branch of medicine known as endocrinology. Endocrinology is the study of hormones.
A hormone is a chemical messenger from one cell or group of cells to another. Hormones are released in the body and have an effect on other parts of the body. The effect is to communicate with possibly distant parts of the body.
An endocrine gland is a gland which secretes hormones.
Conditions treated are:

  • Biliary cirrhosis, primary
  • Celiac disease
  • Chronic liver disease
  • Diabetes, type 1
  • Diabetes, type 2
  • Inflammatory bowel disease

Hematologic diseases
Hematologic diseases are health problems that affect the blood or blood-forming organs in the body. The most commonly treated problem is Anemia. Anemia occurs when the body has a low number of red blood cells (RBCs). These cells carry oxygen throughout the body. Fewer RBCs limit the body's oxygen level.

Infections and autoimmunity
An infection is the colonization of a host organism by parasite species. Infecting parasites seek to use the host's resources to reproduce, often resulting in disease. Autoimmune diseases arise from an overactive immune response of the body against substances and tissues normally present in the body. In other words, the body actually attacks its own cells. The immune system mistakes some part of the body as a pathogen and attacks it.
Conditions treated are:

  • Anaphylaxis
  • Common cold
  • HIV and AIDS
  • Influenza
  • Meningitis
  • MRSA
  • Sepsis and septicemia
  • Tonsillitis

Kidney diseases and male urogenital disorders
This section covers diseases relating to the kidney and other male urinary and genital organs. Condition usually treated relates to Benign prostatic hyperplasia

Mental health and learning disorders
In this section you will learn about vitamin D's role in different forms of mental illness as well as learning disorders.
The term mental illness refers to problems that people experience in the way they think, feel, or behave.
A learning disorder is when a person has problems in understanding, remembering, and responding to new information.
Conditions treated are:

  • Anxiety
  • Cognitive impairment
  • Dementia
  • Depression

Musculoskeletal disorders can affect the body's muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and nerves.
Most work-related musculoskeletal disorders develop over time and are caused either by the work itself or by the employees' working environment. They can also result from fractures sustained in an accident.
Typically, musculoskeletal disorders affect the back, neck, shoulders and upper limbs; less often they affect the lower limbs.
Conditions treated are:

  • Ankylosing spondylitis
  • Falls and fractures
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Osteitis deformans
  • Osteomalacia
  • Osteoporosis

Neurological conditions
A neurological disorder is a disorder of the body's nervous system.
Structural, biochemical or electrical abnormalities in the brain, spinal cord, or in the nerves leading to or from them, can result in symptoms such as paralysis, muscle weakness, poor coordination, loss of sensation, seizures, confusion, pain and altered levels of consciousness.
Conditions treated are:

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
  • Autism
  • Epilepsy
  • Headache
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson disease
  • Stroke

Oral health
This section covers health problems relating to the mouth and teeth such as:

  • Dental caries
  • Periodontal disease

Respiratory diseases are diseases of the lung, pleural cavity, bronchial tubes, trachea, upper respiratory tract and of the nerves and muscles of breathing. Vitamin D has been found to be of benefit to respiratory function, though the research is still ongoing. The most common conditions treated are:

  • Asthma
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Pneumonia

  • Acne
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis
  • Rosacea

Women's health
Health problems those are specific to women such as:

  • Bacterial vaginosis
  • Fertility, regular menses
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome
  • Pre-eclampsia

How Does Powerstrum Work?
The main function in the newborn is in the form of transfer of passive immunity from the mother to the child. The mother has been exposed to a variety of environmental factors and organisms to which her immune system has produced antibodies during her lifetime. In transfer of passive immunity the mother passes on her complement of antibodies to these various factors onto her offspring. In humans and apes the mother passively immunizes her young in utero by passage of antibodies through the placenta. In animals where maternal antibodies do not pass the placental barrier (horses, cattle, pigs, and sheep) the young are passively immunized immediately after birth by way of Powerstrum. In these species the maternal antibodies present in the Powerstrum are absorbed directly through the gut in the first few days following birth.

Is Bovine Powerstrum Safe?
Bovine Powerstrums have been used for years as a food supplement, its use and safety is well documented. Powerstrum is completely safe; it has no negative side effects and is a whole and natural food that can be consumed in ANY quantity. There are absolutely no toxicity levels. Further the manufacture and use of dairy products, and their associated safety and nutritional benefits is also well known. Through quality control management of the entire manufacturing process, from collection of the Powerstrum, through to packaging and storage, ensures the Powerstrum is delivered in perfect condition, certified to be fit for human consumption.

What is vitamin D?

Vitamin D is measured in International Units (IU) and is potent in small quantities - one IU is equal to only 0.000025 milligrams (mg)! Conversely, 40 IU is equal to one microgram (mcg or µg).

There are several forms of vitamin D: supplemental vitamin D, pharmaceutical vitamin D, and those that exist in the body - what are called vitamin D's metabolites.

Supplemental vitamin D

Supplemental vitamin D comes in two forms:
1. Vitamin D3 cholecalciferol (pronounced koh-luh-kal-SIF-uh-rawl).
2. Vitamin D2 ergocalciferol (pronounced er-goe-kal-SIF-e-role).

Vitamin D3
D3 structure
Molecular structure of cholecalciferol (vitamin D3).

Vitamin D3 is real vitamin D, for it is the same substance as what is produced in human skin in response to sun exposure. Supplemental vitamin D3 is derived from either lanolin or cod liver oil extract and is the form of vitamin D that most effectively treats vitamin D deficiency.

Vitamin D2
D2 structure
Molecular structure of ergocalciferol (vitamin D2).

Vitamin D2 is derived from fungal sources by activating ergosterol with ultraviolet light. It is not naturally present in the human body and may have actions within the body different to those of vitamin D3.

Although many doctors are still prescribing vitamin D2, vitamin D3 is the preferred form for treating deficiency and is what is recommended by the majority of the experts as well as the Vitamin D Council.
